Marijuana and Anxiety

Do you want your children to be anxious and depressed?

Marijuana is touted as a panacea.  Good for everything.  “If you are anxious, smoke a joint.”  The logic is beyond me but some believe dope would help with depression.

I’ve listed several websites below with data on how magnesium helps alleviate anxiety.  And depression.  One of the issues with marijuana is that it depletes magnesium in the body.*  So, if you are smoking pot or taking THC in some other manner or fashion, then you are, in the long run going to make it worse.

If you are worried about your child being anxious and the possibility of them doing drugs as a solution, read at least some of the articles referenced below.

The side effects of pot, particularly the long term effects, are kept out of the limelight as there is presently a huge marketing engine heavily pushing the benefits of this drug in the USA and Canada.  The result for the Canadian Government if marijuana gets legalized will be billions of dollars in tax revenue per year.  (Who gives a fuck about the kids.)

Anyone that already does dope on a regular or semi regular basis is not interested in this information.  I’ve talked to many and they really don’t see what is obvious to most people around them.  (The ones that don’t do drugs, anyway.)

Depression in Teens

I”m in no way trying to convince you that people do not sometimes have real problems.  Of course! We all do! We are on a really fucked up planet for pete’s sake.  I’ve had a few friends that were a bit put off by a couple of my articles until they realized that we were all, really, on the same page.  I think they were thinking that I was attacking them when the real focus of my ire is Big Pharma!

My biggest problem is the use of drugs as a fix for depression or anxiety.  As I said before, emotions are not bad things.  Something happens, like losing someone close, one has to come up through the emotions.  And you will.  Someone dying on you that you are really close to, for example, can really fuck you up.  My mom died and I was messed up for ages.  But  drugs tend to fix you in that emotion and not allow you to move through the necessary emotions to get better.  That is not healthy at all.

I’ve had people tell me they have used anything from exercise to different types of breathing to changing diet to get a handle on their depression symptoms.  When was the last time you went for a fucking walk?  Oh, yeah, but the doctor isn’t going to tell you that – no money there. In fact, going for a 20-30 minute walk every day will probably handle most of your physical as well as your mental ailments.  You will sleep better as well.

I’ve been depressed in life.  I’ve had other ‘unwanted’ emotions.  They pass.  Eventually.  A friend of mine split up from her husband.  He was screwing around on her.  He was troubled(no shit sherlock!) and the doctor recommended some mood altering drug or other.  He and his buddies are all telling her to take something, which she refuses to do.  Thank fucking god!  She figures that she will get through it and like me, that emotions are not bad things.

To me it is kinda like if you were afraid when some animal is attacking you and instead of using that fear to fight or run, you take a drug so you are not afraid.  Doesn’t make much sense does it?  You would more than likely end up dead.  Apathy, depression, grief, fear, anxiety, anger, boredom even happiness – they are not bad things.  We all move through them from time to time.  You do have a choice.  You can go for a walk or try some natural way to fix it – almost no one has died from trying that.  Or, you can try the drug route.  Death from drugs in every increasing and is more now that deaths caused by firearms or car accidents!  And! … you are then trusting a profession that causes 440,000 deaths per year due to ‘accidents’!  They actually cause these deaths.  So, who ya gonna trust?!

So, for my money, if my teen is depressed or has anxiety, I’m not putting my money on an industry(Psychiatric/Pharmaceutical) that kills people.  Psychiatry is not your friend.

Enabling Depression

Are you enabling your depressed friend?

Stop fucking enabling!  It’s pretty much the same as enabling an alcoholic; they’ve got to hit what they think is the bottom.  I”m not say that you should be mean here; being mean is never, ever better than kindness.  And sympathy will kill them dead.  I really hate the phrase ‘tough love’.  I think it can let people justify being mean and calling it love or kindness in some sick way.  So, be there for your friend who is depressed, listen, don’t enable and if you let them run from you and go to a Doctor or psychiatrist to get some mind numbing drugs, I’ll rip your face off.

I have a nephew who is an alcoholic.  I was his last chance.  His parents, especially his mother enabled him for years.  He just kept getting worse and worse. He came to live with me.  Third time he got drunk and didn’t show up for work, I took his stuff and left it on the porch of the buddy he went drinking with.  The buddy, whose couch he slept on that night came out screaming, ‘He can’t stay here!’ as I drove away.  After that, I helped him by driving to the food bank and some other basic things but never gave him any money.  It took some time but he now has been stabling working and living and taking care of a family for several years.  In his eyes, I can do no wrong.

I never told him he was bad, just the opposite – he is quite capable but alcohol is pretty deadly stuff.

Well, please, wake the fuck up.  Depression and anxiety are not much different. I know that the person with ‘Depression’ feels that they are not really understood, that no one ‘gets’ them.  Pretty much the same as the alcoholic or druggie.  So, what the fuck, you get depressed.  Everyone does.  People get angry.  People get bored.  People get sarcastic.  People get cheerful. All of these things are part of being human, dummy.  Next thing you know the fucking pharmaceutical industry and the psychiatrists will start calling normal a disease.  (Oh fuck, they did already – I’m not kidding.)  Get the point, these assholes are not in it for you. They want your money.  MONEY!!  It’s called the Pharmaceutical Industry for a reason.  It is an Industry.  So, reason for existence is to rake in the dineros.

So, if you tell your friend, “Oh, you poor thing, it is all so bad, boo hoo, you have been so hard done by…”  Fuck Off!! – you make my skin crawl!  That is not gong to help anyone.  You may think you are helping but that is not effective help.  You want to help, take them for a walk and get them to look at things and come out of their depression and not wallow in it, not talk about it.  Be kind but don’t let them wallow.  Give them some B vitamins.  Throw away the newspapers.  Get them to stop watching the news on the TV.  Get them to block all the fucking bullshit on Facebook!  Who needs that shit.  That is some effective help.  Drugs – that is not effective help.  That is just fucking stupid.

Drugs have so many freakin’ side effects and doctors prescribe them because they are paid to, not because they have any idea of benefits.  My father was a doctor for most of his life in a third world country.  For free.  Near the end he told me that because of Big Pharma, he didn’t know if he’d helped or harmed more people.  That is from a very conscientious doctor.
